Went to the Massey dealer yesterday to get a head gasket for my Standard diesel. He winced and punched it into the computer. Fortunately, he could order it, but was surprised. He said that parts for that engine were no longer available and had no idea where to send me if I needed anything like pistons etc.
Does anybody have a source if I do need more parts?

Chuck

Chuck , Check head very , very carefully . I almost missed the crack in mine . Found one that passed magnaflux by pure accident . Saw lots of cracked ones . They are hens teeth . Everything else was available to rebuild mine as of last fall . The precombustion chambers can be machined by a shop but it ain"t cheap . Good luck , Mike

IS this a silly Question? But are you sure it"s the head Gasket leaking, I"ve seen people change them when it was the water pump leaking into the crankcase.

Well, the problem is the other way around. No coolant in the crankcase, it's oil going into the radiator.
Anyway, I have the gasket ordered (22.50) thru Massey and when it comes in, I'm going to go over the upper end with a magnifying glass.
I'll keep everybody updated.

I really appreciate all of the great feedback. This board is GREAT!!

Chuck

This site under click Massey in the header above and then on the left, find Massey Tractor Parts, select the model of your tractor and then the parts your looking for.

As an alternative (since there are so many parts suppliers), you can enter the Massey part numbers from you parts manuel (you DO have one don't you) into your browser search engine and you will find many differing sources for the same part.

Good luck and I hope you don't need too many!

Uh, Yeah, sure I have a parts manual. ;-)
No, I don't have a manual of any kind for this tractor, but I will have shortly. Thanks so much for the links. It makes me feel more secure.
Oil is going into the radiator, so I'm going to replace the head gasket and give it a visual while the head's off. Hope that's all it is. Big Dean has been very helpful also via email and I appreciate all the input I'm getting from everyone.

Chuck

Hello Chuck -

Be careful of the precombustion chambers in the head when you have it off.

They are round inserts in the head, different coloured metal an inch or so in diameter, with an opening in them - and probably lots of carbon build-up.

Don't try to remove them - they break, and they are probably the only part you cannot get aftermarket - or anywhere else!

Good luck on the hunt. Bareco and A&I dealers should be able to get you the gasket. Don't see it listed separately, but it's in Vapormatic top gasket set number VPA4008, MF 1810028M91. Original MF number for gasket 827 612 M1. Original MF top gasket (valve grinding) set number 830 894 M91.

Jack

Chuck, while you are ordering the MF Parts Manual, also order the MF Repair Manual. The two manuals together will greatly assist you in keeping your tractor ticking. Don't waste time on off-brand manuals, get real MF. I got all three MF manuals for my MF and have never regretted it.
