I already have a MF 165 Diesel tractor, I am considering getting a 175 or 180 Diesel, also.
My question is: What's the difference? I have a specs book and it appears they have the same engine, transmission, etc. and were made the same years. Anybody out there have any answers?

There is a lot of difference between a 165 and the 175 or 180... about 10 hp I have a 165 and a 180. I also have a 12 foot oliver disk harrow the 165 can't pull it in plowed ground as the 180 has no problem. the 180 is a row crop version of the 175, the difference is that the 180 has a platform, shifting from the dash, hydrostatic power steering. the weakness of the MF is the hydraulic system especially the multi power... My 165 does not have multi power i have farmed 17 years with it and almost no problems at all.. the 180 i have had to take apart a couple of times for hydraulic problems... the last one was to replace the top pump... a $900 item ...I love the 180 for handling tho much like at 3020 jd
the mf165 has a 204 perkins diesel and the 180 is a 236 diesel.. I really enjoy both tractors

Go with the mf180. I just bought mine and have really enjoyed the added clearance/platform and ease of operation. I looked at a mf175 for my needs and decided that I would be happier with the mf180.

I looked into parts availability and found plenty of suppliers around just like for the rest of the models.

Regards,

Dan

175 is just a lower profile like the 165
180 is a higher profile with a platform in stead of sitting with the transmission between your legs. 180 is much nicer to operate.
I think the 180 was produced longer than the 175
parts for the 180 are as available as easy as any make.

Go for the 175, the 180 is getting hard to get some parts for.
