Does the PTO go in reverse direction?

I have a brush hog on my MF135, and I"m wondering if when I put the tractor in reverse to work around objects while brush hogging, does the PTO actually stop and then reverse direction when I put the tractor in reverse? If so, is it bad on the tractor or brush hog to do that, or is it fine?

A lot of people will back the bush hog in brush they don"t want to risk running over. There are a couple of makes of rotary cutters made to use in reversr.I saw one at an auction two weeks ago made like that. It had a heavy push bar across the back about three foot above the mower deck to push saplings over so they could be cut off. About a foot or so of the deck across the back was cut out so you could get larger brush into the blades and it had a heavy steel mesh about five foot tall across the front to protect the driver.

Only in the ground proportion position does the PTO back up. Otherwise it is live independent of the transmission. If you have the most common setup for the 135, you have a double clutch, where the PTO only stops when you push the clutch pedal all the way down. That PTO drive comes practicaly direct from the engine, not through the transmission.

I don't think you want to run the brush hog in the ground proportional position of the PTO shifter, it won't run it fast enough for reasonable ground speeds. That's made for PTO driven rakes.

I belive i read you can do considerable damage with ground PTO and reverse gear. Be careful. Lou
