Hi folks, been dealing with the older model MF 20 & 35 , 35x which have been fine when it comes to brake adjustment. Have now got a 165 which needs the brakes adjusted but I presume thy are hydraulic and want to know where to top up the oil, bleed them etc - any advice ?

The brakes on th MF165 produced in Banner Lane Coventry England were all mechanically operated. Up to 1971 they had 2 internal discs each side up to serial number 597745 and when the 165 was upgrade they had 5 each side from serial number 100001. The brakes are adjusted by the nut on the end of the pull rod coming out of the rear axle on both sides. If there is no ajustment left you will proberably need new internals.
Hope this will help.

Thanks Graham, There is a small adjustment left on both sides, enough to rise the pedals about 1-2 inches. I"m fixing it for my dad and had to rebalance the power steering last weekend so am just doing some odd jobs on it at the moment. Any ideas on the Alternator wiring? the main wire from the alternator is connected to the starter but there is a second wire which seems to be connected to the ignition switch - is this correct ? battery doesn"t seem to last any length and I know he"s replaced it at least once already (the battery that is) and i haven"t clamped the main field cable with a multimeter to see if there are amps being produced, either the second cable is the sensing cable and is not corrected right so the battery is overcharging or the alternator is shot ?

Hi Graham, it's Ok, I searched through the Forum and thanks to the knowledgable people here found out it needs to go to the pilot on the dash as well.
