I have a 1928 Wallis OK, I have changed the oil and I am not certain as to how much to put into it. I don't believe I have the correct dipstick. I have a book that mentions the connecting rods should touch the top of the oil to splash it in to the upper cylinders. However, after two gallons of oil, the level is an inch from the connecting rods. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,
Bill

Hello, I´m from Argentina, i start a Wallis 20-30 restore, and i have a 12-27, but the 12-20 have a lot of pieces missing. I search for a manual, photograps, anythings what can help me.
Thank´s for you attention.

The correct oil level in 1/4 inch below the pans. The oil pump fills the pans for the rods to dip in. If you fill it to a level that the rods run in the oil it will smoke and use a lot of oil.

I must be missing a part of my tractor. I do not have any pan below the rods. There is nothing between the rod caps and bearing caps and the oil level. Is there supposed to be some sort of baffle or splash pan? I also have another question. I found a 3/8" ball bearing in the bottom of the oil pan. I don't know where it came from? I checked the pressure regulator on the outside of the crank case and it has a spring loaded ball bearing identical to this one. Is there another pressure regulator inside the crank case or a ball check valve that this could have come from? Thanks again for any help.

Hi Bill: Yes your tractor should have dip treys under each rod. Someone has probebly removed them at some time and not put them back, they are just held in by (2) 1/2 inch bolts down the center of the (H) patern treys. Many times the treys are taken out to service the oil pump it is the only way to get a wrench in there and get the pump out. As for the 3/8 inch ball you found I would bet it was dropped down in the pan long ago from the top of the push rod assembly, there should be a ball on the top of each push rod look to see if one is missing.

I was going by instructions for a J or K but my memory is that there should definitely be pans on an O.K. Are there dippers on the rods? If so, pans are needed. The ball could be out of the oil pump I think. I have a dead O.k. I will check out the pan business.

Well, I may have mis-informed you. The tractor I have that I thought was an ok turns out to be a late model K and it definitely has pans. However I read your post again and if yours is 1928 it's not an OK either. It would be a certified 20-30. So it probably is a pressure lube engine. if so your oil level an inch or 2 below the rods is good. Email me the ser # and we'll get to the bottom of this yet. ascurrie @ sasktel.net
