I have a 245 with the Perkins Diesel engine. I recentlly rebuilt the engine after the oil pump drive gear died. Now my oil pressure gauge is at the bottom of the "high" range at idle, almost pegged at 2400 RPM. Could I be using the wrong oil? The person I bought it from said to use 15-40 Diesel oil. A 245 owners manual I found Indicates to use SAE 20 up to 90 degrees and SAE 30 above that. Does anybody have any information?

The 15w-40 and the 30 shouldn't be as far apart in viscosity as your needle is indicating so I wouldn't change oil.

My fords, that have gauges, consistently run 60 - 80 psig of oil press, cold at PTO rpm's and they haven't seen a wrench in 30 years.

If you have a pressure relief valve, and need one, maybe it's not working. They're set to around 30 psig.

Beings you just tightened up all your bearing slop via your overhaul you should expect high oil pressure..... unless equipped with a functional pressure relief valve. Not sure whether you tractor has one or not.

Call a MF dealer and talk to the engine mechanic in the shop.
