Hi guys!

Just thinking about starting to get the 135 ready for the hard work of the coming months!

It is Perking 3 cylinder diesel.

When its cool ish (i.e. less than an hours hard work) we have preety good oil pressure - sometimes nearly in the red for too much when you first start it up and for 10 minuites or so!

Then when its been going for a while the oil pressure really drops at idle - nearly to the red for too low! Itll shoot right back up there when you rev it.

It was serviced by the garage next door about this time last year (when we first got it) (as a freebie for us letting them borrow it :D) And i am going to assume they just chucked the oil that they put in everything else in it, rather than oil for older engines.

Any suggestions on what oil to put in it?

And also how much does it take?

Cheers

Ben

My 3-152 as I recall, Perkie has similar oil pressure. First one so I don't know the condition of the engine, nor the engine's design habits.

Use the 15w-40 also; nothing less.

It's 6 quarts I think with filter. Put in 5 quarts and you should have oil on the dipstick. cCrank it up and run it for a minute to get the filter full. Shut it off and top it off to the full line on the dipstick.

Don't worry too much Ben, our "C" reg ( C at the end of the number plate 1965 ish) was like that right up to when we sold it in 1996. We used to use Castrol then we went on to Elf TOU. By the way, I think I have found you a nice little disc mower, you wont even have to take the loader off the 135! check this one out.

Most old engines do that, as long as you have pressure under load don't worry. Perhaps check the pressure using another gauge? I've never had a problem using normal 15W/40 oil that I use in modern machines in Perkins engines, even older ones. I don't like using STOU in engines, whatever they say I always find engines run better on proper engine oil.

Ben, I would use Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40, or Shell Rotella 15W40. They are both made for diesels. Also change the oil filter as they may not have used the correct oil filter.
