This seems to be primarily a tech forum, but I wanted to ask if anybody knew what has happened to the M-F plant in Detroit in the last few years. I toured and inspected the plant in 1992 as an environmental consultant to the property owner, who was operating the facility as an industrial park. Large areas of factory floor were still unused, and contained remnants of the assembly line, including a wonderful 4'x5' picture mounted on board depicting the assembly line process with nice artwork. I should have asked to buy that at the time, but, alas I was only dimly aware of Massey Ferguson and its history then and did not fully appreciate what I was looking at. The tractor test track and inclination platform were still in place, and the corporate office area was largely unleased at the time. Who knows what interesting ephemeral remains of Massey-Ferguson still lay in those dark offices? Another thing that was in place and the owner was excited about finding a use for was the automated material handling system in the parts warehouse. This was a 70's technology computerized inventory retrieval system that was very impressive. I have not seen anything like it, although I am sure even more advanced examples of this kind of system are in operation today. At the time I toured it, the plant seemed to be mostly original and intact. Was this the plant built originally by Harry Ferguson before the Massey merger? I would welcome anyone who has any info or would like to correspond further to please email me.

Charles, the plant is still there, largely unused and the surroundings are looking pretty tacky. Please feel free to contact the following person who worked for Harry Ferguson, Inc. at that plant for many years as a factory rep. He'd be happy to visit with you about the plant.
