MF-35 Clutch operation

Hi I'm posting this from the Northwest Territories of Canada which makes me a long way from the nearest tractor shop. I have aquired a MF 35 tractor. Put a rebuild kit into the engine and am currently repairing the hydraulics.

I have a question regarding the clutches on this unit. The PTO and transmission clutches do not appear to be operating in the correct order. Partial depression of the clutch disengages the PTO/Hydraulics first and then full depression of the Clutch disengages the transmission. Should this not be the other way around? Could someone have incorrectly installed the clutch plates in the past or is this the correct operation.

I grew up on Fords with live PTO and they operated the other way around.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

All the way is pto and half way is ground speed. Don't know how someone could install them backwards as I recall they are two different diameters.

There are some articles in the archives from Sibby (an Aussie) where he describes how to drop the plate on the bottom of the tractor and look up and measure the setup of the clutches.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it is just wildly out of adjustment.

I have the manuals on order so should be able to correct the problem.
