Hi
Wondering about best way to improve steering on a MF35 with loader. Can"t locate any original equip parts yet and have been told after market power steering kits not very good. At present it has manual steering which is not functioning properly.
Thanks

I have seen the puwer steering system from an old Ford truck fitted on an MF35. The pump is powered by the fan belt. The cylinder is fitted to one of the rods that goes from the steering gear to the front. The owner said it works qite well.

Hi Alton,
Good points suggested by Thomas. In addition you can make sure the front axle pivot bush and pin are in good condition. Badly worn bushe and pin will change the geometry and make the steering harder. Do you have smooth front tyres. The normal 3 rib pattern will reduce ground contact and make steering easier. What tyre pressures do you use? Tyre condition permitting you can go up to 45-50psi with a loader. If you have a lot of wear in the steering column top bearing it can tighten itself as you turn the wheel under load. Generally the whole steering system has to be in good condition for the PAS kits to work properly. Hope this helps

Replace the front axle king pin thrust bearings, they get worn and collapse. Make sure that you get all the old bearing out, you will probably have to cut it out. Also replace the king pin bushes provided that you have access to a 1 1/4" reamer.
