Just purchased a 333 M-H. We are having a big discussion about engine. Is it a Continental or Hercules?

Did you ever get anywhere with mf backhoe parts search? I was looking at one myself but don't know much about their line. I understand that the backhoe division might be out of buisness. It appears from a quick search on the net that the other tractors are still around. If you have any leads or contacts, I would be interested. thank you.

Both gas and diesel 208 cu. in.
I have seen these engines called Continental and Massey Harris. Does this tractor have a foot and hand clutch?

This is a 4 cyl. gas. I am suprised at the 208 ci.
Previous owner said 38 hp. Tractor has only foot clutch.
It is identical to a 44 I had in the past, only smaller.

I have seen the gas engine listed at 37 or 41 pto hp.
Diesel engine 37 or 39 pto hp.
I read that the 333 had a hand lever operated clutch in the differential that would stop the tractor without stopping the pto.

The hand lever is indeed for stopping power to the drive wheels, while
continuing power to the PTO. It was an option on late 33 and 44's and was an option on all 333', and 444's. I have a gas 333 with the live PTO
hand clutch option and a 444 without. I have a 44 that has the live PTO
hand clutch also. They work great for baling and mowing.
