Yes. If you pull the cover, there should be a screw that adjusts the tension on the regulator spring. Changing this screw will cause the spring tension to increase. As it increases, the voltage will rise. Stop tightening when it gets up to around 9 volts.

I couldn't get my 44 Special to start under 6 volt. I put a 12 volt battery in it and was able to get the generator voltage up to 13 volts. My hind sight (always 20-20) is that the cables were my problem. If I'd gotten some 0 or 00 cables, it would have started fine on 6 volt. I couldn't find them for my 1952 Ford car either. So I bought 1 AWG cables. That worked a lot better. So I bought three more 1 AWG cables with just the tab end and placed one in parallel with each of the 1 AWG battery cables. That gave me an equivalent of a 000 cable. It spins now like a 12 volt. Cables are 90% of a good 6 volt system.

Of course, you've already made the investment in an 8 volt battery so going back to 6 volt doesn't make much sense. But you still ought to replace all of the cables with 1 AWG or larger cables.
