Hello, I recently got a MF65 Diesel tractor. It needs PTO oil. The user manual says that it needs "mineral oil" SAE 90. The local NAPA says that it needs something called TDH. The local MF dealers say they don't know. Can anyone tell me if TDH and SAE 90 mineral oil are the same thing? Does anyone know where one might get SAE 90 mineral oil?

You can find 90 weight mineral at a Walmart super center store. If you do put in new style tractor fluid and find that your lift is weaker than normal after operating for a time I would put the 90 weight back in it. These old machine were designed to use 90 weight. The oil that is currently used in most tractors nowadays was available back when your tractor was new. I know they have improved it somewhat, but it still not 90 weight mineral. Also if your tractor is a rowcrop model, don't forget to put 90 weight oil or heavier in the finals. These are bulges in the center of your rear axles and they are filled separtely.

It's best if you use the newer Trans-Draulic oils which has the extra protection for your ring gear and pinion and also has the anti-foaming characteristics for your hydraulics. The cost is very minimal over the cost of straight mineral oil.
