I finally got my MF135 to charging. Replaced the voltage regulator, had alternator checked (good). Still would not charge. Started tracing wires and found another set of wires with ends wrapped in tape. There was a fuse in the wire from the alternator to the #3 terminal on the voltage regulator. I removed the fuse and holder and spliced the wire together. There was not a wire from the #2 terminal on the volt. regulator to the starter selonoid which I added. I guess that this tractor had a generator on it originaly. Should my fuel guage stay when the tractor is off? The tractor has a generator guage on it instead of ammeter. When the tractor is running and you turn on the lights, The generator guage shows it is charging. Is this right?

The fuel gauge for the diesel engine gets it power from the number 4 terminal of the regulator. The regulator is excited by the oil pressure switch on the back of the oil pressure gauge when the oil pressure reaches about 7 PSI. When the regulator is excited the number 4 terminal become hot sending fire to the fuel gauge. when the engine is shut off and the oil pressure fall below 7 PSI the regulator will shut off and the fuel gauge will loose it power. Hope this helps you understand how all of this is connect together. The wire that goes from the number 2 terminal to the starter really is not necessary for everything to work. I only have it on the Diagram because they were on those tractor when they were new.

I probably should give it a couple of minutes after shutdown to verify that oil press. has dropped enough to shut of the fuel guage. I found out from previous owner which had it for 6 years and me having it for 3 that the alternator never worked for him. He just charge it once a year.
