Dear Thomas,
Thank you for your cooperation with me online.
I am so sorry to tell you that the number of series I have sent you was wrong,it was not 280 but 298 series.Anyhow I think that there is no much difference in troubleshooting. You had used terms which is very difficult to translate to arabic,so can you simplify your english to me as acitizen from non-english speaking country please? We had repaired the breakdown by alocal mechanic who found one of the springs is broken and he changed it.We want to know more about the machine not only this breakdown,so please be patient with us.
Would you like to send us more informaton about the steering system and its problems?
We will be grateful for you and for all the staff in Massey Ferguson firm.
With my best wishes.
Yours
AYAD

I am making the assumption that this was a 200 series export model, please ignore if not. What type of steering system do you have? Tractors built abroad as CKD were still available with power assist steering, I have a feeling that it was only Libia who took it. You will know whether you have it or not as if so you will have a steering box and drag link down the left hand side of the tractor. It is the same system as the old 100 series. If this is the case you need to adjust the linkage in the front support, check for wear especially in the turnbuckle pins. Replace any worn parts and adjust the turnbuckle (it has one coarse thread and one fine thread, so changes length as you turn it). Another common problem which affects both hydrostatic and power assist steering is the seal in the front of the pump. Are you loosing hydraulic oil into the sump? If so fit a seal kit to the pump.
