I'm trying to figure out the model number of an MF tractor that has serial number 9A324461 - anybody have any idea?

Its been painted so there's no indication of the model number. The Perkins diesel engine has these markings cast in: ENNW08 MC24208 37111570/3 and this marking stamped on: CE22528U605173F.

My best guess is that it might be a 1973 or 1974 model 245. That's sketchy and mostly based on interpolating other serial numbers found on www.ytmag.com: 9A313318 and 9A334856 are evidently both MF245's.

I've sent a note to the MF customer support line - they've acknowledged the question but haven't yet responded. Same deal for my local dealer.

A friend owns the tractor and is willing to let me use it in exchange for some mowing hours. Its been a couple of years since its been run, though it was evidently running fine when last used. I'm trying to get a game plan together - here's my outline so far (comments and suggestions appreciated):

Figure out the exact model
Track down manuals for that model and read 'em
Change out engine oil, hydraulic oil (transmission oil?)
Drain and refill diesel fuel
Grease all the zircs
Charge/replace the battery
Try to start it

If I can get it running I'll see about tracking down a ROPS retrofit kit for it before I use it (I'm a tractor novice).

Thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

-- Jim

Your engine serial number indicates 1979. That's the engine manufacture date anyway.

How many cylinders? If 3, it could be 1979 245 or 230 according to tractortips.com. If it is a 4 cyl it could be a 1979 255, 265, 275, 285. Also a picture would be nice. C. T.

Looks like a 245 orchard except for the headlights. The pictures on this site show the 245's with round headlights. Wait for an expert's opinion. C. T.
