Good evening to all, Looked at a 44 spec. this weekend. I noticed it had drops of oil lying around the air intake stack, on top of the hood. What would you make of this? Ring problems? Maybe something else? Anybody had this experience or seen it before? It seemed to run good? Thanks,
Ben

Could have simply backfired and blew oil up and out the air stack.

Mine is a 1953 44 Special but i have never had the problem you described. Suggest you check the cannister at the bottom of the air cleaner. There is an oil level mark on the inside of the cannister. Maybe the oil level is too high or maybe the cleaner tube and cap need cleaned out.

Just making suggestions as i don't see it being a ring problem . The air is going thru the cleaner
into the carb, which shouldn't have anything to do with the piston rings.
