Have a 1970 135 perkins gas with dual clutch 1220 orig hours. Very nice, original shape, even original tires. 1st problem - Currently it will not go into reverse at all and goes into 2nd hard.(i think second, but definitely the gear in line with R) 2nd - purchased a new fuel gauge and sender (both 30-240 ohm). Bench tested them and they work. Its a lighted aftermarket gauge, and the sender came from massey but was still a unversal model that I had to fit by cutting its height down and bending the float rod. When installed neither the gauge or the light in it worked, and all other dash gauge lights did not work- disconnect it and the other lights work again. According to I&T, pink wire from regulator is supposed to power the gauge. How do I know if the regulator is good? I checked the pink for voltage- none when the engine is off or even the key is off, only when the engine is running, and its not 12 volts, its lower like 4-7 and fluctuates. Also, is the mounting enough to ground the gauge and the sender (original gauge had no ground wire, I believe but new one does). new and old Senders have ground tab for a wire. Thanks in advance Aaron

I was able to fix the gear problem by wiggling the gear through the filler cap. It came loose very easily. I now have been working on the wiring - The fuel gauge/sender will work, but only when hooked up directly to the battery, not as it should be-connected to the pink wire from the voltage regulator. I tested the pink wire for voltage w/ engine running. It is about 4-6.5 volts, as is the red wire coming out of the regulator. The other two wires ( I think gray and blue) are about 24-26 volts (DC) with the engine running. Is something wrong with the voltage regulator? How can I check it? Maybe someone put a 6 volt regulator on it in the past? Thanks All

Hi

Gauge lights on my 135 are high voltage kind of
neon lights via an oscillator and transformer
(little black box behind the dash)

after market gauges are fitted with a 12 volt
lamp. You may wire this gauge lamp from a wire coming from the light switch.

If the system is h.v. type do not connect the 12 volt lamp with other meters it wil fry the transformer.

Hi,
Not sure on the wiring problem as you may have different looms in the US. Your gear problem sounds like adjustment. Probably the main clutch plate is not being released by the time that you reach the second stage of the pedal. This will require the clearance on the three adjusting screws in the main pressure plate to be increased and possible adjustment of the pedal also. Is it OK with the pedal pressed fully to the floor?
