The engine serial# tag will say engine size.

Thanks...I talked to the guy last night, and he though it is a '46'...which means it has(or should have) the larger engine in it.Do you know anything about these tractors? what are the weak points, as well as the better points?

What is the serial number on your tractor? I have a reference here for both row crop and then standard models that tells you what engine (124, 140, or 162)was originally in your tractor when it came off the line. Being a '46 I would guess it was the 162 because that was probably the last year the 101's were made. You'd have to assume of course that the original engine is in the tractor to use this information. Post your tractor serial number here (and it's front axle configuration) and I'll get the information from you.

If the oval tin plate on the left side of the transmission cast housing is missing, the serial number is also hand-stamped into the upper machined surface of the transmission, specifically on the left upper surface between the shift lever platform and the metal lid on the differential area (near the foot clutch resting location). It might not be stamped too deeply so you might have to scrape and wire brush away crud, etc to find it, but it will be there.
