I posted a while back that i had changed the pto shaft seal on my 165 MF but found it still had a leak. Well today i got up bright and early drained 8 gallons of fluid, got all hot & greasy putting in another new seal and i"ll be danged if it is not leaking now worse than ever.
(i had the local tractor shop press the seal in it"s not in backwards)

I examined the shaft this time when i had it out and could see a couple of small grooves. What am i going to have to do to stop the leak? Whole new shaft?

Debur the shaft with some emery cloth, ideally in a lathe. Press the seal in not quite all the way, so it seals on a fresh bit of shaft. That has worked for me in the past, if not then either replace the shaft or get it machined and a wear sleeve made.

Thanks,

I think i will just bite the bullet and get a new PTO shaft. I was searching on the net last night just trying to determine how much $$$ a new shaft would be. They range from $60 up to $150. With my luck i'm sure my 165 w/ multipower would require the $150 shaft.
