A few months ago I bought a 1973 MF135 with the 3-cyl gas Perkins and have used it about 20 hours. I've noticed that there is no "easing off" of the clutch on this one. Once I let up about 1/2 way it grabs and goes. I had a diesel model a few years ago and I don't remember it being like this. I've made the linkage adjustment per the manual. Is this normal? Is there another adjustment I can try? Or should I start saving for a new clutch? And it definately isn't slipping at all. Thanks for any replys. Hope to hear from Big Dean on this one!

Could you email me at:

mike46@icrossroads.com

I have a friend who has the same model with a gas engine and has a question about a strange engine noise that he thinks might even be "normal" after a rebuild and then a second teardown and reassembly. Big Dean has responded to the problem earlier but my friend would like to contact someone who has that gas engine and ask about this noise which I can describe for you. Looking forward to your email.

That sounds like someone has installed a clutch disc with metallic linings on it. If it had a new clutch disc installed that the flywheel and pressure plate was wore with a lip on the edges untill the disc seats in to fit in them they will sometimes do that till the disc wears in to fit.

have same tractor, had same problem, made it real tricky to hook up to something, mother-in-law refused to get behind tractor with me on it

tractor had sat for a long time and pressure plate must have rusted, using tractor for light work will not polish the surface very much

WARNING: this is sacriledgeous to many but it works

AFTER you have eliminated mal-adjustment:
hook onto something HEAVY, put tractor in 2nd gear high range, rev the snot out of the engine and slip the clutch a bit at grab point, wild eyed heretics will put front bumper against a large oak tree

if that doesn"t do it then think about splitting the tractor
