MF135 Perkins Gas Compression results

Hi All,
I ran a compression test on my 1970 MF135 Perkins Gas. #1 = 170lb, #2 = 150lb, #3 = 160lb

The #2 cylinder had very hard carbon deposits built up around the lower portion of the spark plug hole such that the 1/2 hole was constricted to about 1/4-3/8 in. I bored it out carefully by hand with a series of drill bits 1/64 at a time until it was fully open. I kept the bits oiled to 'catch' the particles as best I can. Most were very small.

Questions: What do you think of these numbers? Will what little carbon particles that fell into the cylinder cause a problem? What was the likely problem that caused the buildup in the first place ..rings?

Thanks for your input....

I'm searching for an answer about the engine on a 135 gas which are somewhat rare in these parts. Can't help with the problem you have but I have a question about my friend's 135 gas that he has just rebuilt the engine on. When running (no load) he hears a somewhat faint, hollow tinny rattling sound from the engine. It doesn't really jump right out at you but it is there nonetheless. He has torn it apart since the rebuild and measured everything up and things are all to spec, however this strange noise still is there after reassembly. When your tractor is running, do you hear anything like this? He has never heard another 135 gas engine running before so he is out of answers right now unless it is a "normal" sound from that engine design.

I'm probably the wrong person to be asking.... post your message as a new message or to Big Dean.

I did not overhaul my MF135 and have only acquired mine last Fall as my first tractor, so I am no better off than your friend.

Wish I could be more help.

BTW... My tractor is loud an noisy in general and I doubt whether a faint, tinny sound could be heard.

Still, my experience with machinery in general suggests to me that when I hear a sound as you describe it is generally two pieces of metal that are not part of the engine that are vibrating at a very high pitch in close approximation so that they don't appear to be moving. Does the noise persist or change in any way when the engine is revved up or shut down?

It is definitely an engine noise, seems to be operating at valve or piston speed.
