Ferguson TO-35 Deluxe vs. MF65

I have a very dependable 59 TO-35 Deluxe (gas). I am considering selling it to buy a MF65 diesel (about 1960 vintage) or MF165 diesel (alittle newer) Both are about what I figue I could get for mine. I'm mostly considering this for the diesel, the hydraulics (I know I can add basic hydraulics to my 35) and power steering. One day I'd like to find a loader. I mostly use it for home work; grass cuttting grading and lifting but I could get into about anything. I'm looking for advantages, disadvantages, known short comings, value etc.
Thanks for your input.

Stepping up to a 65 will not give you any more
hyd. capacity (approx.4.3 gpm) same with a 165
unless it has the seperate 10 gpm pump and not
too many did. If it has a plastic knob on the
pto lever rather than cast iron it is likely it
has the second pump. The 65-165 has a heavier
drivetrane with the planetary rear axles. The
65 will not steer as short as your 35. The Perkins diesel on a 65 or 165 are a plus. The
early 65 was not direct injection like the later
65 and 165 but not a big deal. Your 35 will always
be more in demand.

Kevin the 65 is a slightly larger, heavier machine with more hp, planetary rear axle, better brakes(disc)and better suited for loader work(front axle better design)If you decide to buy an MF65 you want one with the later direct injected perkins(like the 165)
2 more cents

Hi Kevin

I have a MF-135 and a MF-50 with loader with 14 X 28 rear filled tires.

For small works in the garden or around the house
and barn I prefer the 135 because it is ligh and
turn on a dime. The 50 is heavy it damages grass
with its heavy weight especially whe we have to turn front wheels for a short turn.

I use the 50 only when I need the loader for dirt and snow works or heavy load to pull or lift.

In my opinion a 35 or 135 is the ideal tractor size for light domestic work around. If I had
to farm many acres I shure prefer a 65 or 165.

Just my 2 cents....

Bart

Go for the 165, with its added power and diff lock you may find it more useful, i have a 65 and love it but not all the 65's have the diff lock wich really comes in handy when you need it
