Last summer I took the starter off the 180 and had it checked out at a repair shop. I take all my stuff to him. It has never started the tractor like I think it should. I live in Northern Mo. and this fall it just seemed to be too slow in the cooler weather. Yesterday I took it apart and saw some bad connection on the armature, so I bought a new one and put it in. The difference it made is Night and Day. The guy we bought the tractor from always said it was hard to start in cold weather.( Below 60) The starter is so fast now that it will start below freezing. We are using a 450 CCA car battery in it now. The owner of the tractor thought we needed a bigger battery. He could not believe it when I said " Listen to it now". I just wanted you to know that sometimes a shop can miss a part that is starting to go bad.

Yes, I was not upset with the repairman for not catching it. He is a good guy. Also it is a Delco starter and we were so happy when we got the speed back. I just wanted people to know that if they are having trouble, they might want to check out the starter.

B., Thanks for the info, you can"t find all of the bad parts all the time. Isn"t that a Delco-Remy? Shouldn"t be too hard to keep going, glad you foumd the culprit.
