Generator Disassembly

The neighbor is trying to convince me that a vintage Massey needs a generator to look proper. I disagree on grounds of functionality, (or disfunctionality), cause an alternator beats a generator hands down. But then there is the tachometer issue to deal with. So I began taking it apart (cause it don't work) and found a broken brush spring and some worn out bearings. My question is this: how do you remove the tach drive gear from the end of the shaft so that the outboard bearing can be renewed? Thanks in advance, Aaron

Aaron the drive gear has a stud made on the back of he gear that screws into the threaded hole in the armature you just unscrew it. Then remove the screw that holes the gear case back to the generator. Hope this helps if you have more question email me

Aaron the alternator from a late MF100 series tractor with the Continental engine has the same tach drive on them but you have to have the external regulator that goes with it.
