A friend has a MF 65, 1960 model. He loaned it to a guy who knocked the oil filter off on some scrub brush and ran the motor out of oil. The motor is now so locked up that they could not free it up by pulling it around an asphalt parking lot. Anyone have any experience with this kind of problem? Are we probably looking at a rebuild or a new motor? It is a 4 cylinder Perkins diesel.

I wouldnt pull it around the parking lot to try to unsieze it. Your starter with a good battery has just as much or more torque than you would need.

Hello,
The sad news is probably 'yes'. If you remove the sump you may well find that the problem will be the number four conrod seized on the crank shaft as this is the furthest away from the oil pump and will suffer first. Depending on the extent of the damage to number four it would be advisable to check the others. Try moving the number four piston in the bore to see if it is still free. If it is you might be lucky. You might be able to scrape any white metal off the crank journal and then polish it with fine emery cloth. It's a risk, if it was mine I would strip the engine as far as necessary to be sure and avoid risking another major problem.
Regards
