I have recently purchased an old MF50 that has been in a family where the original owner died a number of years ago. The serial number tag is missing (4 tiny rivet holes are evident below and slightly to the left of the steering wheel). The engine casting number is Z134A500-P. I would very much appreciate any help in determining the year model of this tractor. Thanks so much.

Hi

This is a photo of an 1957 Massey-Harris 50
Tractor. Massey-harris at that time had
light slope each side of the hood like the previous models and a bird as nose cone just over
the air filter.

That"s a really fine looking tractor! I have a 1962 MF50 diesel and it is a mighty tractor. I also have an Uncle that has a MH-50 like the one you have. He got it from another Uncle of mine that bought it back in the early 70"s. At the time, the word was that it was wore out! Well, through 2005 and for sure 2006, that tractor has and will still be doing farming chores, mainly tabacco in the hills of NC.

Michael, is the engine serial number still on the tractor? Its is on the left side near the distributor. If so, please post that number and I have a source that can provide the exact date the engine was built and shipped to M-H-F.

i too just acquired a tractor i believe to be a mh-50. the serial tag says mh-50 and the serial number puts it to 1956. but other things on the tractor are stamped MHF...and the guy i bought it from believed it to be a massey harris ferguson from the 1960's. can anyone help me pinpoint the make and model? the merger years make it difficult and i'm no tractor expert!

I think the MHF markings were discontinued before 1960. A Massey Harris 50 would very likely be a 1956

My parents 135 has MHF markings. It is a 1969 model. Heck, I think I have seen them on the 2 series tractor, if I am not mistaken. A 1956 mh50 would be nearly (if not exactly) identical to a 1957 mf50. If the serial calls it a 56, then that is likely accurate. Telltale markings of a pre 58 would be scallops (flats) down both sides of the hood. The MH makes it a pre 57. HTH Aaron

Stange. I have had 2 65s and 3 165s, 1960 to 1969. I have never found any MHF castings on them. My brother has a TO35. That has MHF on everthing.

My 1964 35 has MHF on the side of the transmission. What a great tractor, I just started it in mid-winter and it started instantly. Oh, did I fail to mention? It is 76 degrees Fahrenheit in Edmond, Ok., today. C. T.

Bob, Please accept my condolences. Actually, I am right in the middle of the Oklahoma fires and would appreciate some 10 degree weather (with some snow, four to five feet so it would really soak in). C. T.

I guess I should be the one offering condolences. I have seem those fires on the news and just can't imagine living with that threat. If only you could get some of that rain that has been washing California away. Hope you stay safe.

Bob, Thanks, a couple of really bad fires were stopped about four miles from my place. We actually had a small one on my street but two pumper trucks (we are all on wells) put it out before it got out of control. C. T.
