My friend has a 235 that originally had power steering. He had it rebuilt a couple of times but it never worked right. I changed it over to a manual steering box off of a 135. It worked ok but it was pretty hard to steer for him because of his age and health. Is there a solution to this problem.

The weakest link on a 235 was the power
steering system. This would come up at
every meeting. We were fortunate to
transfer ours out to other areas. But
in all fairness to MF, updates etc did
improve these somewhat. Your dealer should be able to check service bulletins
and find out how to improve this tractor.
Chuck.

This power steering system did not have cylinders. The power assist was in the steering box. it was a very complicated arrangement. The steering box was made by mercedes, which made it hard to get parts for and when found they were expensive.

Yes, put it back like it was and fix the pump/cylinder. Had to rebuild the cylinder on a 245 and it wasn"t much of an improvement. Do a search on this page and you will find a few comments on this specific steering system. In my opinion the steering setup is weak at best. Also, may want to check this site out:
