I AM REPLACING BRAKES ON MY 3165, REPLACED DISKS AND AXLE SEALS, ONE ADJUSTING ROD BROKE WHEN I TRIED TO FREE THE NUT SO I REPLACE IT. IT DOES NOT LOOK EXACTLY LIKE THE ORIGINAL BUT CLOSE. MY PROBLEM IS WITH BOTH SIDES (EVEN THE ONE I DIDN"T REPLACE)THE RODS SEEM TOO LONG HAVING ONLY A LITTLE OF ADJUSTMENT FOR FUTURE WEAR. I USED THE SERVCIE MANUAL TO GET MY 2 1/2 TO 3 INCHES OF FREE TRAVEL, BUT GET VERY LITTLE BRAKEING, AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG? THANKS

Hi,
Don't know whether you have wet or dry brakes but it does not make much difference as the principle is the same. Where the actuator rod comes through the pivot bush in the brake arm as you will know it is threaded. There are usually spacers under the nut. Have you jacked each wheel up and adjusted up until the wheel goes tight. Prop or tie the brake pedals in the 'up' position and adjust your brake rods until you can just get the pins in. Slacken the actuator adjuster about 1 to 1 1/2 turns until you have satisfactory 'free' travel on the pedal. That should cure your problem.
Please come back if not.
