Hi there,

This has been discussed over and over again, and I am now even more confused.

I heard a long time ago from a MF dealer that the Ferguson red they used in the late 70ties was not the correct color for the MF 35 and 65, but that was the only red they had, so I painted my MF 65 with that red color.

Later I have heard the same, and also that the first 100 series tractors had the same color as the MF 35 and 65, but it was later changed.
Others again says that all 100 series tractors had MF Super red, and not the red used on MF 35 and 65.
Then I get the film Massey Ferguson 1956 to 1976 by Mike Thorne who owns the Coldridge Collection, and it seems to me that the MF 35 and 65 has the same color as his MF 135 and 175.
So, I called Mike Thorne yesterday and asked him about this, and he tells me that he has been told by some in the MF system that there have only been 1 red MF color for that time.

So, now I am really confused.... very confused.

I think you should paint them blue because Fords engineers had to redesign Harry Fergusons hydraulic lift before they could put the 9n into production in 1939 MJ ps I have a Ferguson type A

Hey,

Well thats another poor rumour of Ford propoganda. Fords engineers DID NOT do any redesigning of the Ferguson system!! They were installed in their tractors, but that was it!! Again Ford trying to take credit for something else they did not do!! ( Just like the assembly line, that was Ransom E Olds, not Henry Ford!! )

Take care,

Will

You mean the other way around. The valves in the fords didn't occilate and would get stuck, Ferguson redesigned it so it wouldn't get stuck laying down in the bowels of the transmission. Hmm I though we were talking about paint.

Do you guys know if the red and silver mist grey paint sold by Yesterday's Tractor matches the original 1963 MF35 gas colors? If not, where can it be obtained and what are the color names? I want to match the original red and silver as close as possible which probably means using enamels instead of urathanes.

Thanks

BDA

Hi,
There have definately been two reds used on MF tractors in the UK. To the best of my knowledge Massey Ferguson Red was used on the 35,65 and production for the 100 series. I believe that they changed to Super-red with the introduction of the 500 series in the UK around 1974. I believe that they also changed from Stolleigh grey to light gray at the same time.
I would like to hear a more definitive opinion if anyone has one.

Yes, I had hoped more people had something to add here. Maybe we should paint them pink, that is how the red looks like when getting very old and the tractor has been out in the sun.
