I recently purchased a Massey Harris 44 that has been converted from 6 volt to 12 volt with a single wire alternator. I would like to convert the tractor back to a 6 volt generator. Does anyone know what model generator was used on the 44s? Delco, Autolite, Prestolite, etc. Thanks.

Dale

The tractor did'nt have a tube for the air cleaner on it when I got it. I was'nt sure if it was suppose to have a metal pipe,or a rubber hose. On most of the pictures I've seen the tractors have rubber hose's, they just dont really look like they belong there to me. This old tractor sits most of the time till I can eiether sell it or get around to rebuilding it. There is a metal cap on the carb throat that keeps the bugs out, I take it off to run the tractor.

I have a 1952 44,It has an Autolite generator, model number ( on the tag ) GHD 6001G. From the info I have found, this is factory. Only problem is the regulator for this generator, which is mounted on the generator, is obsolete. I have had several places that specialize in old stuff, try to find a new old stock, or an exact replacement, with no luck. If anyone knows of a source, please post it. One local rebuilder says he could put one on and make it work, so much for original though. It would probably be easy to put a delco unit with a regulator mounted on it from a farmall H,M,C ect if you were'nt worried about having the "factory" set up.....Tom

I have the Auto-Lite replacement, Prestolite VR,
6 volt, for that Gen, stored in my parts boxes. Of course, it was off the 44. Did work, or I'd
have avoided keeping it. The mount bracket was
more 'strap-style'than the unique Auto-Lite, but
it is the bonafide replacement. First e mail can
have it. Just seeing that picture of the '52 44
was worth it, you've got to love these classic
'correct red' tractors. Thought NAPA had a generic
VR, a few years ago. Breather tube:Autozone M206
'rad hose' 90 degree elbow, 9"x12" $16.99, 1 7/8"
I.D.(cut to size). Good Luck.

Thanks for the pic, and the model number. This will help in trying to locate the correct one.
