Joe - the answer somewhat depends upon when in 1956 your tractor was built. From November of 1954 to July or so of 1956 the colors were gray and green. After the Ferguson F-40 came out in the spring of 1956 with beige and flint gray colors, M-H-F decided the TO-35 should have the same color schemes. So from about July of 1956 through 1957 or so, that was the TO-35 color. After that it went to red/flint gray. The SNs for 1956 started at 167,157 and went through 171,740. Where your SN fits in that range will give you a clue. Also by scratching down to the first level of paint you can sometimes find the original colors (remember, the primer was reddish) give you clues. Also, you may be able to find a hidden place where the original colors can be still found, such as the steering column where it is protected by the instrument panel.

Hope this helps rather than confuses.

Paul
