Recently purchased a MF 1100. Everything appears to be working fine, however, in high 3rd with the multipower on, it has a very loud for or whin in the rear end. Is this normal? What could be causing this?

I'm with the others, it's normal. Our 285 does the same in 3rd gear, MP up. Always has.

Drain the oil out of the rearend and remove the plate where the sump oil screen is located. If you have a lot (tablespoon full) of metal filings/flaking in the screen you have a problem. 1/4 teaspoon normal, 1/2 or more watch it but not ready to be tore down yet. A whine is normal but looking at the screen will give you a good indication of the condition of your rearend/hyd system.

Good Luck
Merle

Both my 1100 and 1130 whine in 3rd gear. I've had the transmission apart on the 1130 and nothing is outta spec. 3rd is gear is your main field gear in low range so the gears do tend to get more wear. I found keeping the oil changed and free of water and using premium oil reduces the whine, but get used to it, it's not hurting anything.

All our 1100s and 1130 have a whine in 3rd high with multi-power up, but i dont know what your definition of whine is. As long as it dont sound like it will hurt anything dont worry about it.

I doesn't sound like it is hurting anything, it is just a loud whine or roaring noise.

Let me clear this up. It has a loud roar or whine in the rear end when the throttle is wide open. I really have not noticed this noise any other time.
