MF 135 Pressure Control

Hi Everyone, I was flipping through my Operators Manual for my MF 135 and was referencing the 3-Point Hitch section and realized that the quadrant pictured in the book was different than what I had on my tractor, as mine has an extention on the Response Control sector for Pressure Control. When I was having issues with the 3-point and e-mailing Big Dean about it (which were later corrected by adjusting the levers to the back of the quadrant so it the linkage would rise...) I had mentioned to him I had found a Pressure Control Hitch for a 100 series tractor (it had come off a 150) and was contemplating it and he told me that very few MF 135s came with Pressure Control (as well as it was expensive to convert it so the hitch would work properly) Is my tractor one of them because it has that extention on my 3-point Quadrant? The Tractor is from 1967 and the manual is a reprint from AGCO so I am assuming it was a current for the last year of production manual.

Also, in what context would the pressure control hitch be used on a 135 since most of the implements avalable to it were intergral?

Thanks,

Christos

Hi Christos,
You are indeed lucky to have a 135 with Pressure Control. It was a very clever hitch which transferred weight from a trailer to the back wheels of the tractor. It improved the capabilities of the 135 enormously not only in traction but in terms of braking ability as well.
The hitch is fitted to the lower links and adjusted by means of turning the cut-out plates which engage in the lift arms. The arm swivel pin should be vertical. To attach to the trailer for example a means of attaching the chain at an angle of not more than 45 degrees to the drawbar has to be made. The linkage is lowered until the tubular frame is horizontal and the chain attached. Pressure Control will vary the oil pressure from about 500psi to full pressure depending on the tractor. When applied the tractor tries to lift the trailer against the tractor drawbar and consequently increases the weight on the back wheels.
The success of PC was overshadowed by the increase in tractor size and the arrival of four wheel drive.
If you have something like a topper (think you call them Bush Hogs) and are using it in soft ground, the weight of the machine on the ground can be reduced so that it will 'float' over the ground. Wish I had it on my '67 135.
