I completed the pump rebuid today and after all the grease was smeared, o-rings found, blood was spilled, I decided that 400 is not much for a rebuilt. Prior discussion was correct that there is no relief in the piston assembly to clear the oscillator. As I read here before, I had to clearance it with a grinder. I only hope that the small fillet I removed does not adversely affect the piston. I assembled it wrong (or forgot something) at least 5 times that I know of. The hole experience was quite similar to giving a cat a pill. You would have to have 10 hands to do it right.

In the end, all is well. It turns free and looks like it did when I started, just cleaner. I am still trying to figure out what all the rest of those O-rings are for. I used 10 in between the chambers, 3 in the control valve, but I have many left over. Even some teflon spiral jobbies.

Still can't figure out what the oscillator is for. Far as I can tell it moves the control valve spring seat back and forth. What does that accomplish? It is really good at getting in the way of the piston. Healing in WV Aaron

PS Watch those piston rings, they seperate tissue like a scalpel.

Well, my pump kit should arrive in the next week, so sounds like I"ve got something to look forward to. Randy

Well, not much to say here except that giving a cat a pill is a very simple task, heat a little cream, but not too much, it is just meant to be a little taste for the cat, crush the pill, and put it in the cream and stir well.

The cat then eat it by itself and most of the time with enthusiasm and joy.

Aaron:

Congratulations on your pump rebuild. It is quite a learning experience. Hopefully it will work well.

There are many "extra" O-rings in your kit. some are for the lift cover, PTO, etc. The small sprial rings are back-up washers for each end of the stand pipe. One should be inside of each stand pipe O-ring.

As to the piston/oscillator linkage interference, I could find no arrangement that would eliminate the interference and I chalk this up to a redesign without follow up to assure that the redesigned parts would work properly. I relieved mine with a die grinder also.

For what it's worth, the rebuilt pump in my 35 works great.

Thanks for the information. I have the standpipe, but never really thought about those o-rings fitting on it. Good idea, since there is 2300+ psi trying to get out of it. If I had not relieved the piston, I am sure it would have destroyed itself. It may still. I think that this may be what damaged the last kit that was installed in this tractor. I did look to see that the area next to the oscillator was the area that was broken, but I forgot to look for signs of impact. I just assumed it was the water in the gearbox that trashed the pump.
