Hi everyone, I made the trip home today to try and figure what went wrong the other day when I was bush-hogging.

I think the reason why it won't fire is because the fuel line is clogged. I took off the sediment bowl and took out about 1/3 inch of accumulated rust and gunk out of it. Another reason why I suspect its the fuel line is because when I reassembled the sediment bowl to its mount, and when I turned the fuel back on, there wasn't any gas coming out of the tank - so I went and bought gas (ouch) and poured it into the tank and again, nothing poured into the sediment bowl...so I think I have to take the gas tank out and have the rust removed and the tank sealed up and THEN I shouldn't have this problem again. I also discovered by referencing my parts manual that someone in my tractor's 39 years of usefulness retrofitted by splicing the fuel line from the sediment bowl to the carborator, a secondary fuel filter so I think that also gunked up and I gotta figure out what size, etc. they put it in.

For the wiring harness issues. I had to jiggle the wires again to get the starter to crank. I checked the loose ends of the wires tightened one, but for the life of me I can't figure out why its doing it.

The only reason I can figure it does that because the wiring harness from the starter to the voltage regulator and the ignition passes near the thermostat line and the wiring harness from the generator to the voltage regulator and there might be some interference. Also I the safety switch doesn't have its boot on. The mechanics never put it back on and I don't know what they did with it.

Likewise I have more issues I realized, below where the hydraulic remote assembly is (where the pressure port would typically be) there is about two teaspoons of fluid there and there is some leaking from the gasket on the power steering. I don't know if they put PermTranIII in my tractor. I know I should I know does this mean the gaskets have to be replaced or is this caused by usage, e.g. the levers now control the three point draft/response/pressure controls and remotes as they lubricate?

I know my tractor has a lot of kinks in it, but when it works it runs like a top and is stingy on the fuel.

I appreciate any advice you can give

Christos

Nut tightening party....
Just get in there and tighten every nut you can find on every switch and every gauges and every component.

It's a good thing to do and while your at it, draw a picture of where every wire runs from and to...

This will solve your problem I'm betting and it will also teach you a lot about your tractor.

Then later, if something serious does go wrong you'll be able to put it back the way it was...

At this point I would be concerned about clearing up that fuel tank problem and totally cleaning or replacing the fuel lines. You are lucky you have the in-line filter because that might have saved you from having all of that gunk in your carb. as well. Once you have that cleaned up (or for that matter while you're having that cleaned up), you can start checking electrical connections. Sounds like something is loose or perhaps chafed and shorting out. It's a simple system, so there has to be a fairly simple diagnosis. The other leakage problems are both probably simple gasket replacement issues. At any rate, they would take a secondary role in my thinking until I had the fuel and wiring problems sorted out. Tim

When I turned the ignition and got the starter to go - it started whirling and trying to crankover and then start to click and I could see a blue spark and then the ignition switch make a blue spark and thats when I gave up on trying to start it.

Just to reiterate - the Starter, Generator were rebuilt, the Solenoid, Voltage Regulator, Wiring to the lights and to the flashers, Wiring Harnesses from the Generator to the Voltage Regulator and from the Starter to the Voltage Regulator as well as the ignition were all replaced with AGCO parts last year when it went into the shop.

I know you've talked about jiggling the wires a couple of times. Have you had to do that since you got the tractor back from the repairs you've spoken of, or has the problem only recently started to occur? Although everything has been replaced, are you sure all connections are tight? Other than that the only other things I can think of would be a bare wire somewhere (which isn't the likely problem) or a component failure somewhere. It's tough to diagnose a problem like that.

From the when the valve cover gasket failed and was brought home yes - but not all the time, but what I have to do is gently tug the wires that go to the ignition and pull slightly up and I guess whatever is causing the problem is remedied temporarly. I ordered a new ignition from AGCO and sometime next week I am going to go pick it up and install it and see if that works, but as far as the wiring I have no clue.
