MF 135 Gage and fuel sending unit questions

Hi Everyone, I bought the lighting kit for my tachometer the other day from AGCO.

I was wondering also how I need to go about installing it into the gauge wiring harness as well as fix how the lights (headlights and warning lights) and gauges come on.

If I turn the knob to the first position the headlights, dash instruments, and flashers come on.

If I turn it to the right again, the headlights, rear lamp and flashers come on, but no dash instruments.

How can I make this work better? I think having my headlights on during the day while having my flashers on is sorta a good idea so people can see me, but there are times I only need the flashers to go down the road to another field.

Before I forget, someone a while back mentioned about a place that restores the MF Dash Instruments. What was the name and phone number? I was contemplating having the remaning original ones I have left done.

And last but not least, I bought a new fuel sending unit for my tractor because I think the old one is on the fritz. Are there any hints or tips on how to install it? Do I need to drain the gas out of the tank ?

Thanks, Christos

If the new gauge has a newer incandescent light bulb, I believe you will not be able to wire it into the wiring harness, but not sure. I am sure that if it is a new 12 volt incandescent you need only run a hot wire from the light switch on a pole that the harness is attached to and the ground to any ground position.

If you got a MF replacement fuel gauge then you need not worry about adjustments, but if yours is an aftermarket automotive unit, you need to make sure it is adjusted to the tank dimensions...I had quite a time getting my to work properly.

Also, it IS important to ensure a good ground and if the little strap is gone or fails to work properly, just run another wire to a good ground position from one of the screws holding the unit in place.

Actually, I replaced all my old gauges with new Sunpro units. They look good and work just great.

Good luck.

The only one I can speak knowledgably to is the fuel sending unit. Just make sure the tank isn't full. Take out the screws, remove the sender, use a new gasket, put the sender back in, reinstall the screws. Be sure that little copper grounding strap has a clean surface, otherwise the new sender and guage will not work.
