MF 35 cracking rotors

I have a MF 35 petrol 12v. It will only run well for about 2 or 3 minutes then starts to run rough and die. It has developed a problem of cracking rotors, allowing the coil to arc to earth through the rotor. I have replaced condensor, plug leads, distributor cap, points, and rotor(many times). I have also replaced springs on advance weights and beleive timing is correct, as it initially runs very well. There does not appear to be any mechanical contact inside the distributor causing the fractures. I thought it might have been expansion of distributor shaft when it warms up, so cleaned up top of shaft with file to allow rotor to fit a little easier onto shaft. Result is still the same. Could someone please help as I don't have much hair left to pull out.
Cheers,
Allen

It sounds like the nut on the front of the camshaft has either came off or usually the end of the camshaft and nut breaks off. This causes the camshaft to work back and forth and make the distributor shaft work up and down causing it to tear up the distributor. I have seen that problem several times through the years.

What condition is the distributor shaft/shaft bushing in? Could it be that distributor bushing and shaft are so worn that the rotor is wobbling causing it to hit the contacts in the distributor cap? Maybe a distributor rebuild is required. The distributor on my Ferguson TO-30 was so badly worn that with the points closed, I could move the shaft by pushing on it radially, and the points would open to thirty thou! Turns out the shaft and bushing were both badly worn. Check the radial play in your shaft/bushing by pushing sideways on the shaft while the points are closed and observe any motion of the points. The spec on these shaft/bushings for radial play are about 0.002 inches.
Hope this helps.
