I just bought a 1979 MF245 diesel and need to change all the fluids. what do you'all recommend for the engine, hydraulic, power steering? Is the final drive the same compartment as the transmission? I ordered a manual but don't have it yet. thanks in advance. Castorriv.

The MF245 also uses Permatran 3 in everything but the engine including the power steering. If I remember right the operators manual calls for a 10/30. I owned 2 different MF245 for 10 years and used Shell Rotella T 15/40 in both of them.

Best wait until you have the manuals and do the job right. For engine use any good diesel oil like Shell Rotella T 15W40, Mobil Delvac 1300 15W40, Chevron Delo 15W40. On my MF 690 everything except the engine takes MF PermaTran III. Enjoy your "new" MF. Tom

I have a 255. I use Rotella 15W40. Permatran in the transmission.

My manual says the finals are not part of the transmission compartment-but I learned the hard way that they ARE.....I ended up draining a couple gallons back out.

So at some point in time Massey must have made a change or had different models. May have something to do wit Wet/Dry brakes. For refrerence mine does have the hash marks on the back of final drives-I know that means some differentiator.

Paul
