I have pressure in sump of my 135 three cylinder diesel which is blowing oil up the dip stick when it is pulled out, when I take off the oil filler cap there is some smoke and pressure.I have cleaned the rocker breather and taken off the rocker cover which is fairly clean. My question is this when the tractor is running there is only the slightest blow of air from the breather pipe with not any trace of oil or smoke, surley there should be at least as much presure and smoke as comes out the filler cap when it is open.Could there be a blockage stopping the pressure getting to the rocker cover,if so could it be cleared with engine flush or compressed air. This tractor lay for about six months unstarted before I got it and did very little work by the previous owner, transporting a few bins once a week. Thanks for your help

I also have a 135 with Perkins 3 which I have just rebuilt and so far I've done everything bar have the injector pump rebuilt. When I take it out and get it hot (and I mean hot) you do get a fair amount of blow by out of the oil filler cap. I think it's just something these engines do so just as long as it isn't blowing oil out of the seals. Hope this helps, SAm in NS

Still no answer to my question should there not be the same blow out the breather as there is out the filler hole.

Understand that.My question is should the pressure and smoke which comes out the filler hole not be almost the same out the breather pipe,in my novice opionin its as if the blow isin,t getting to the rocker head and into the pipe

Hi all,
Having oil spots blown up the dipstick tube is generally a sign the the engine has considerable wear. However it is inevitable that some spots will be blown out with 'normal' breathing. Remember that the crank BE journals are ploughing through the oil continually. As I understand your question the blowback is not excessive when the oil filler cap is removed.
The engine has not been made yet that does not have some blowback if we could measure some very small amounts. Very light smoke is not uncommon and does not suggest any problems. If you have removed the breather pipe and cleaned it, that cures most of them. The baffle at the connection point inside the cover does reduce occasionally but if you can 'blow' through it that's OK.
A little bit worrying is the fact that you say the tractor was stationary for 6 months. You do not say whether it was inside or out. If it was outside without the exhaust covered it is probable that rain has entered the cylinder/s depending on which valve was open. It would take very little water to cause the top compression and maybe other rings to stick. The resulting gap would only need to be minimal to allow gas to pass.
I would suggest that whilst the engine is running that you slacken the injector pipes in turn and note the change to the engine. If one shows less than the others then that is a pointer to where the problem lies.
Please keep us posted.

Oil is being thown up by the revolving crankshaft most likley and not being blown out. Check oil consumption against fuel use, oil use should not exeed 1% of fuel useage i.e. for 100 gallons of fuel used no more than 1 gallon of oil should have been burnt
