MF65 Throttle Won't Hold Position

Dad has an MF65 that won't hold the throttle position. You can pull the thing all the way down easily enough, and the engine goes up to about 2,000 RPMs. But as soon as you let go it slides back up and the engine slows to about 1,000 RPM.

On my MF35 there's a friction disk that keep the throttle in position. It's up under the right side of the dash where they can easily be seen.

But I can't see anything that clearly on the 65. I can just barely see something way up under the dash by the steering column. But I can't even get my hand up there to feel it.

Is that where the thing is that holds the throttle in position? And if so, how the heck do you tighten it up?

The bottom part of the dash can be removed by removing either 2 or 3 bolts on each side it can then be slid out of the top part of the dash be careful not to break the ignition switch wires the switch will come off with the bottom part of dash. By removing it you can see the everything to do with the holding device If I remember right the part I call the throttle brake is the same as the MF165. They have a metal disc that goes between the friction disc. It has slot in it the tabs on the throttle lever sets in the slots in that metal disc. They will wear till the throttle lever will not stay where you set it when you turn it loose I have a picture of this I can email you if you want to email me an address.
