Perkins engine question

I had a look at the Perkins engine web site today (www.perkins.com) and found that Perkins makes diesel engines for a wide variety of applications, in addition to farm tractors.

I associate the Perkins engine with MF tractors and seems that I read MF bought Perkins when they first started using them.

My question is does MF still own Perkins, were Perkins diesels used in tractor makes other than MF and who might some of those "makes" be, both yesterday and today.

Given the wide spread use of Perkins engines in other applications, it would seem that the availability of replacement parts and their price for MF farm tractors would be greatly enhanced.

Thanks,
Bill

Does anyone know the valve settings for a Perkins 3 cyl. Diesel? We have a 1968 Massey ferguson tractor. Thanks for any input.

Bill, Perkins was bought by Massey in the late 60's or early 70's, I can't remeber the exact year. Then Massey worldwide was bought by Varity Group. Varity Group sold Massey to AGCO and then sold Perkins Engines to Caterpillar on Dec. 10, 1997. JerryG

Last I heard Perkins had been bought from Verity and now belongs to Catterpillar . Saw a new small Case IH with a Perkins Diesel in it at the Toronto Farm Machinery Show a year ago January. How the times have changed.

The list is fairly long and I know I'll miss some.
A-C 160, Ac170 AC175, Oliver and Cockshutt 1850, White 2-105, Ebro's from Spain, Early ford Super Dextas, Cockshutt 560, later Oliver and Cockshutt combines, John Deeres built in South Africa use licencebuilt Perkins from Atlantis Diesel,, I'm sure someone will add to this.

Perkins is now part of Varity Group, a UK company.

I've been confused by this: Perkins was a British company, and their engines were used in some early Fords (Dexta and E37N Majors), and some British Fergusons. MF buys a Canadian company by the name of Perkins that also makes diesels. This seems obvious, but I'm assuming it's the same company? When MF bought Perkins, was Perkins UK also part of MF? This isn't mentioned in the history books...

Perkins is an engine manufacturer, just as is Cummins and Waukesha. Massey Furgeson is now owned by AGCO, who also bought White and Allis several years ago. They manufacture the AGCO White and the AGCO Allis that are fundamentally the same tractor, just different sheet metal and engine options.
