Hi all. Has anyone heard about a 3 cyl. crank with a chain sprocket on instead of a regular gear ?
I have come across some used and a few new parts from a man who repaired a lot of Ferguson and MF tractors. It is a lot of TE 20 parts, and some MF 35 and some MF 135 parts. But, then this strange crank was in the boxes too.

Hi Bill. Could the crank with the chain cog be for the earlier Perkins P3 motor ? I will try and find a work shop manual for the P3 and have a look, although the idea of Smokey2 that it is for driving something at the front of the motor is feasible.

Could be for an industrial Perkins application. These motors were made for a number uses. Which end is the sprocket? The industrial AD152 has a different harmonic balancer and timing case. It is designed so the full horsepower of the motor can be taken from the front of the motor.

It has a 3 row chain sprocket in front. But normally I thought Perkins used gears, and not a chain.

The 'P' Series of Perkins engines (P3, P4, & P6 familys) all used triplex timing chain.
