Hi all,

Does anyone know the play or pre-load on the rear wheel flange on a MF 65 Mk I from 1960. I am replacing the wheel bearings, and need to shim it up when assembling. But, unfortunately I don't know the play or pre-load on the bearings.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance, Bill

Set your shims to provide .001-.005" preload. You can do this by omitting a .010 shim and adjusting for .005 clearance, then reinstall the .010 shim. Good Luck

Thanks, Aaron

I wonder if shims of brass is good enough, I do not have too many shims of steel, and the original ones are not longer available.

Ouch, I got the info out of my manual. I did not know that they were not available. Not sure about brass, but I cannot see it hurting to try. Mine were tight so I have not messed with 'em. Perhaps a salvage yard? 65's seem to be plentiful there. Likely due to the cost of rebuilding the Continental. Cheers Aaron
