Hi MY, thought I'd ask you a question. I tore the front wheels off this little 20 that I have here and when I took them off and scraped off 60 years of grease from the inner hub castings, the color undereneath was what I think must have been on there from day one. The grease and the rest of the hub had been painted over with a somewhat bright and mid-dark yellow, I think you might call it a "safety" yellow color. What I think is the original color (under the grease) was a somewhat pale yellow, not unlike the yellow on a Cockshutt, maybe a bit darker. Would this maybe be the original "straw yellow" that you have talked about here on the forum?

Tractor Parts, Inc. 400 Sorenson Ave Glasgow, KY
270-651-2547. It's three businesses in one, Falcon
is another name. They have a sign division, thus they have a graphics artist clean up the copies
of decals available, then give 3 yellow samples, the golden yellow is there, so you get new lazer
cut decals, right off the plotter. You have to know what you want, they can not stock everything,
but will produce what you order. If you want those surplus vinyl, bright yellow garrish decals,
they will meet your demands. Good Luck.

Hey, Hey, Alberta Mike, we all know the compromise
on the restoration detail, but no paint tricks. The
quickest, simpliest way to get close to vintage MH
straw yellow, is www.Rustoleum.com, Specialty Farm Equipment,Original Equipment colors, stops rust, HD Enamel, 12 0z spray cans. Old Caterpillar Yellow #7449. Cat went to Safety Yellow, in the mid-70's, Avoid this one! I actually sprayed some old Cat yellow on the rear cast rim, of the authentic straw yellow. Hours later, the texture seemed a bit smoother, but the shade was so close. The golden decals from TPI, in
Kentucky are on the mark. About $40.30 delivered,
for 44 Specials, lazer cut, very clean. A note of
advice, you need light primer, like platinum grey, or white, under straw yellow. The wheels take on a deeper shade with brown/red primers, not as precise of a job. Sure, I can brush on paint to old iron castings, without much difference, but the spray on straw yellow, double
primed, double sprayed, looks decent from my descerning eye. I've put others onto this path,
no quibbling yet. Great to hear from my 'ol Up
North Pal. Always a pleasure to hear from an honest, helpful Gentleman. Good luck.

Thanks, I will try to do my best on this thing. I guess most repaints just used plain old yellow in the first can they came across. Keep in touch.

Mike,

Yes, you got it right on the original color. Good luck with your 20, have an 81 I am finishing and then starting on a 20 myself with a powerlift.
