just aquired a mf65 in bad shape that is not running and i'm trying to get it running. i have two questions; first is the electrical system a positive or negative grounded system, second question is how do you polarize a voltage regulator?

Should be neg. ground. You don't polarize the VR you polarize the Generator. If you go to "search this site" under research & info at the left of this page, type in " polarize a generator" you will find volumes written on the subject. JJ.

Agreed!
To polarize a dynamo (generator) connect up a live feed from your battery. UK 65's were positive earth. If yours is negative earth, take a lead from the positive battery terminal and with the gen fitted or making good earth hold the lead against the small field coil terminal for two to three seconds. When connected, the ammeter should then show a charge.

My 65 is negative ground. I can't answer your voltage regulator question.
