I bought a mf 50 recently with a serial #535737. The tractormeter was disconnected and I cannot find a place to reconnect it. From the length of the cable it appears to connect to the back of the generator but there's no way. I contacted the previous owner and he says the generator is original. where does it go? p.s. the tractor is a gasoline model and none of the service manuals I have show a connection.

I have a 180 Massey. The tachometer runs off the back of the generator. It uses a special generator that has an extended shaft and a special gearbox that the tachometer cable hooks into. There is also a conversion unit to change the generator to an alternator. talk to an AC Delco distributer for the proper changeover unit.

bill - on the MF 50 the tractor meter is run off the rear of the 12v generator. The end plate of the generator comes off and a tach drive unit is attached to the generator. Your generator may be a replacement unit. If you need a tach drive, I may be able to help you locate one. E-mail me if you are interested.

I have the exact same tractor and problem. Mine has been converted over, do you have a universal tach drive?
