I just got a 1960 gas MF-85. It has a vertical exhaust/muffler from the front of the manifold on the right side of the tractor. Unfortunately, the Hood hinges are also on the right side of this 85 so it cannot be opened to access the gasoline tank without removing the muffler. This doesn't seem correct. Is it really supposed to have a horizontal exhaust or has someone put different skins on this 85? I have an 85 Diesel manual at it shows the hinges on the left side of the tractor. Can anyone suggest some good manuals to help with restoration of this MF-85? Thanks for your feedback.

Charlie, The 85 tractor was sold with either
vertical or horizontal exhaust. Most have the
vertical exhaust. It should have a cast iron
outlet off the manifold. The important part is
that the muffler had an offset on the lower
portion so that it positioned it away from the
hood. I suspect that a straight muffler has been
put on it?? Part no. of muffler should be 187269M91. This site may have some manuals-if not
let me know.

Chuck -- Thanks for the info. My 85 does have a cast iron offset off the manifold, but not the offset on the exhaust pipe/muffler. I"ll see if I can find one or make a temp fabrication.
