I'm looking at a MF 175 (1972). Can someone tell me the goods/ bads on this machine? This tractor is in excellent shape with less than 2000 hrs. It's always been under cover and really looks to be a real cream puff, if there is such a thing in tractors. The guy is asking $8000, which I think is high, but I think he'll get it because the tractor is in such great condition.

Hi, My experience at auction on the East coast is that old 35-50hp tractors bring the most money. Diesels bring more, they cost a lot more originally. Multipower is nice ,but its expensive to fix. Buy a cheap 3,000lb pressure guage and put a quick disconnect fitting on it and make sure the hydrualic pressure is in the 2500-3000 range. They made this tractor 1964-75, so a good 72 should bring a little more. I just bought a 165 at an auction for $3,700, but I'm spending $1000.00 to fix it up and I'm doing all the work myself (tractor parts are Expensive). I would not be afraid to spend that much if it is as good as you say. Make an offer, you can always go back an pay more. Bill

I have a MF 180 Diesel(1966), very similar to the 175, has been a good money maker for me, cut hay with a 9' sickle and bale with a 4' x 5' round baler, I have a slight power steering problem, but the tractor has plenty of power and starts great in cold weather my multi-power even works! I'd say a good buy at $6500-$7000. Johnny

I bought my 175 D last year in oct. it was in exelant shape from a MF dealer he wanted $6500 for it but came dowen to $5500 . thats about the going price around here for one in any condition as long as it runs good mine is also a 1972 so far I havent had any trubbel with it its got more power then I thought it would have. its geared low so it wont win any races in road gear about 15 miles top speed. but that low gear makes up for it in the feald when your pulling .mine has an 8 speed some times its hard to get the right speed for brush hoging and the front is a little light. and if you dont put the deferentel lock in once in a while it will be hard to kick in and out but its all miner problems the power stearing is the smothest ive used. and its stabel when you hit a hole or ditch or on a hill side the tractor tip or lurch as bad as some others. and I can manuver around places better and it has great vesabilety you can see whats up front. its a good machine I like mine its bulit solid.

Considering a high auction price of $5900. currently... a cream puff with nothing to do but put the key in and go... worth about $7500. tops w/o loader.
