I am trying to get my fuel guage working on my 165 Massey. I bought a new tank sending unit from the dealer. Installed this unit but the gauge still didn't work. I bought a similar type fuel gauge from an auto parts store that fits into the dash. I wired it up according to the directions, but it still doesn't work. It only moves a very little when the tank is completely full. Is there a difference in fuel gauges-different resisitance or something? Do need to get a new fuel gauge from a dealer? All wire connections are clean and tight. Any advice appreciated.

if you take the sending unit out and connect it to the gauge you can see how the position of the float affects the needle movement, I had to really shorten the float arm on my 165 to get it close to being accurate

Hi, My MF dealer sells napa replacement guage at about 1/4 the price. They look the same except no lite. I went through the same thing on my 135. Bill

The 'original' guage & sender i bought for my MF185 (similar to a 165) work fine, but the guage is 'undamped' that is as the tractor moves even over quite flat ground the needle swings around widly from empty to full!! You really have to stop the tractor to see how much fuel is in the tank.
